Job Overview

Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Tactical Radars and Land Based Effectors All Up Round department. The role supports the development, production, and deployment of missile and launcher product lines for land and air defense systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components and sub‑assemblies for tactical missile systems and equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Lead mechanical engineering teams and collaborate across multiple disciplines including structural, thermal, materials engineering, quality, safety, supply chain, operations, and program leadership.
  • Support factories and suppliers with product development, obsolescence, and troubleshooting, both domestically and internationally.
  • Interface with engineering, non‑technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
  • Support and participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Apply knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes and work alongside Quality engineers in support of FAI and Raytheon Source Inspection (RSI).
  • Apply technical problem‑solving skills and hardware development experience in a fast‑paced, team environment.
  • Mentor and guide a team of engineers within the program.
  • Utilize Raytheon hardware tools and processes.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight (8) years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree may substitute for additional experience.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role across the development lifecycle.
  • Experience leading and conducting trade studies, development and design, requirements development and management, and integration and test of mechanical engineering products.
  • Experience working across multiple functional and discipline organizations to resolve technical challenges.
  • Experience in the development, creation, release, and updates of mechanical technical data packages.
  • Experience in the review and interpretation of technical documentation in a production environment.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimension and Tolerances).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Advanced degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or hardware systems design.
  • Experience working on development and production programs for products used in military applications.
  • Experience in a factory supporting full‑rate production of missile components and assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of military and commercial specifications.
  • Experience working with suppliers that develop mechanical products, machined parts, and electronics.
  • Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software.
  • Demonstrated team player, self‑driven leader with excellent collaboration skills; strong technical writing and oral communication skills; ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Salary Range

$107,500 – $204,500 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
