The Energetics and Propulsion Department is an engineering organization in the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This department is responsible for the full spectrum of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion designs/technology, including power systems, ignition, and all other weapon initiation safety systems technology. An individual in this role will be expected to work with a product team and functional subject matter experts to develop architectures, top‑level design concepts, requirements, and manage production efforts for a variety of one‑shot devices (e.g., initiators, gas generators, pyroswitches, explosive bolts).

Location: This is an onsite role located in Tucson, Arizona.

What you will do:
  • Apply and/or develop advanced one‑shot and/or battery technologies using scientific principles, theories, and concepts, and implement them into products.
  • Provide technical oversight to various subcontractors.
  • Manage subcontract suppliers to specify and deliver required subsystem components on schedule and on budget.
  • Frequently interface with the customer to identify user needs.
  • Commit to program schedule and budget.
  • Oversee power source battery development programs.
  • Serve as the day‑to‑day liaison to the programs concerning resource technical assignments and ensure two‑way communication.
  • Contribute to technology development roadmaps.
  • Support failure analysis and corrective action through redesign of failed one‑shot device components or systems.
  • Present one‑shot device design models and supporting analyses/test results to internal and customer review meetings.
  • Support proposals requiring one‑shot technologies.
  • Support development of Critical Item Development Specifications (CIDS).
  • Oversee fact‑finding and contract negotiations.
  • Manage test data reduction.
  • Ensure technical rigor and depth of all deliverables.
  • Be willing to travel to suppliers and government facilities.
  • Provide technical management of subcontracts on Government programs.
  • Prepare proposals and costs, define requirements, and conduct one‑shot device subsystem analysis, test, and verification; support operational testing and supplier collaboration.
Qualifications you must have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of prior relevant experience, OR an advanced degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in fuzing / one‑shots / battery / engineering technology and/or engineering design.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance required prior to start. U.S. citizenship is required.
Qualifications we prefer:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Eight (8) or more years of directly related experience in one‑shot devices and their applications.
  • Directly related experience in one‑shot subsystem design, development, and test.
  • Experience working with and managing one‑shot suppliers.
  • Willingness to travel, including international, to provide supplier support.
  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW).
  • Experience in one‑shot component designs, evaluating performance data, MIL‑DTL‑23659 compliance, and creating technical data packages.
  • Experience in business development and technology road mapping.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Working knowledge or experience with missile design or development, production support, and integration.
  • Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense).
