Principal Specialist, Health & Safety
The selected candidate will have an opportunity to be part of a large Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) organization in the role of a Principal Specialist, Health & Safety department in Tucson, Arizona. The selected candidate must be a self-starter, energetic and able to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment.
This ideal candidate will have relevant safety experience with strength in developing and implementing creative injury reduction programs or campaigns. The candidate should demonstrate a track record or continuous improvement for safety programs. Candidate should have strong communications, interpersonal skills to influence internal and external groups including engineers, factory line employees and management.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with business partners for EH&S concerns regarding facilities and employee practices.
- May have responsibility for facilities and/or medical at the site.
- Organizing and maintaining EH&S policies to achieve and maintain compliance with regulations.
- Managing relationships across other specialized departments to achieve and maintain compliance with EH&S regulations and RTX requirements.
- Supporting and implementing safety programs including, but not limited to, contractor safety, confined spaces, Job Hazard Assessment, electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, machine guarding, powered industrial vehicles, cranes/hoist, training, fire & life safety, and others as assigned by management.
- Being a technical resource to support the EH&S Management of Change through design reviews of our facilities, processes, and products by interpreting and applying OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, IFC, IBC and other applicable regulations and standards.
- Monitoring, administering, evaluating, and coordinating company EH&S programs to ensure a safe workplace.
- Developing and advising employee workplace programs related to safety.
- Coordinating confirmation of policies and programs in accordance with industry and government regulations.
- Collaborating across departments to achieve and maintain consistency of health safety program implementation.
- Conducting regular site inspections for compliance with EH&S programs.
- Serving as EHS representative for assigned building and functional safety council.
- Conducting injury investigations and root cause analysis, developing corrective actions and tracking to completion.
- Leading projects to promote health and safety of Raytheon employees and contractors.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of EH&S strategic initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
- Providing instructor led training on various safety topics.
- Providing support for other site EH&S programs such as new chemical reviews, environmental or industrial hygiene.
- Supporting the site to meet EH&S requirements for upcoming internal and external audits including ADOSH VPP, and other internal company assessments.
This is a 1st shift, onsite position.
Qualifications you must have:
- A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience
- 5 years of applicable experience with a strong focus on safety.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications we prefer:
- Previous experience working in a government contractor environment
- Experience and the application of regulatory EH&S requirements.
- Experience accurately diagnosing general and complex EH&S issues related to Raytheon operations, determine appropriate or practical controls, and implement practical and effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Experience working with databases and use of other information gathering systems.
- Active Secret level or higher security clearance.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
