Location & Role
Senior Engineer – Air Breathing Propulsion, Tucson, AZ (Onsite). Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens with an active, transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret or higher) to be obtained prior to the start date.
Responsibilities- Apply and develop advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts for the systems integration of propulsion, thrusters, controllers, software, mechanical, and electrical interfaces into missile systems and space vehicles.
- Participate in both development and production programs across Raytheon product lines.
- Review manufacturing processes, resolve problems, and work directly with subcontractors on design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
- Collaborate with program management on long‑term program planning for new or projected areas of technological research and advancement.
- Manage propulsion system development projects and subcontracts, reviewing subcontract data, change requests, and overseeing supplier operations.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
- Interface frequently with the customer to identify user needs, obtain new business, and independently uncover and resolve issues associated with missile program development and implementation.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5years of relevant experience.
- Three (3) years of propulsion technology experience applied to solid propulsion systems.
- Experience in designing solid propulsion systems from conceptual design through final test and assembly.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance prior to the start date.
- Advanced degree or eight (8) or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and air‑breathing propulsion systems (turboprop, turbine, scramjet/ramjet, RDE, VFDR, fuel bladders, fuel systems).
- System knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements and flow‑down to subcomponent levels.
- Experience with high‑speed combustion mechanics, inlet geometry design, compressible fluid dynamics (CFD, NPSS, etc.), and exhaust geometry design.
- Project engineering skills using Earned Value Management System.
- Demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager and as a project or team leader.
- Ability to lead collaborative efforts with structural, thermal, aerodynamics, and low‑observable disciplines.
- Willingness to travel, including internationally, to provide supplier support.
- Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW).
- Working knowledge or experience with missile design, development, production support, or integration.
- Experience with DoD customers and associated contractor executives and technical leadership.
- Active Secret or Top Secret clearance (Department of Defense).
