Materials Engineer – Chemical Analysis
LocationTucson, Arizona – Onsite
Security ClearanceSecret clearance required; U.S. citizenship required.
Responsibilities- Perform chemical analysis on materials (adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, metals, and other production materials).
- Assess material conformance to specifications and conduct root‑cause failure analysis using spectroscopic, chromatographic, and thermal analysis techniques.
- Provide rapid engineering solutions within days or weeks; manage multiple simultaneous tasks and meet schedule requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, subject‑matter experts, and suppliers.
- Spend majority of time in laboratory, maintaining instrumentation and safety.
- Document and report findings in concise technical reports.
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, or related field.
- Experience with analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis: FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, GCMS, HPLC, GPC, etc.
- Active, transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to lift 22 lbs.
- Materials science and polymer science, including material testing/analysis.
- Working with material safety data sheets and large‑scale scientific projects.
- Technical report writing and data interpretation.
- Troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
