Position Overview
Practical control actuation system (PCAS) department of Raytheon (RTX). On‑site, U.S. residents only. U.S. citizenship and a valid, transferable DoD Secret clearance are required on day one.
The role of a mechanical design engineer supports development, build, and verification of control actuation systems within Integrated Product Teams.
What You Will DoAs a PCAS mechanical engineer (P3 level), you will work autonomously with regular oversight, have advanced knowledge of control mechanism development, and coach lower‑level professionals.
You will provide mechanical engineering support that may include, but is not limited to:
- Detailed mechanical design
- Earned value management
- Test design and execution
- Systems engineering
Flex responsibilities based on current organizational needs.
What You Will LearnHands‑on hardware work opportunities, including engineering builds, hardware integration, tuning, and verification. Exposure to engineering labs, control system technology pyramid, and direct access to subject‑matter experts.
Security Clearance RequirementActive, existing DoD Secret clearance, transferable to the role, required on day one; U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
Required Qualifications- Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Experience with systems or mechanical engineering of servo controls
- Development of CAS requirements, architecture, risk, verification, validation, system performance, safety, and environmental compliance
- Experience with control actuation systems using permanent‑magnet brush and brush‑less DC motors
- Experience with feedback control systems, sizing, testing, integration, DFM, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
- Proficiency in engineering processes and procedures
- Moderate 3D modeling skills with a commercial CAD package
- Experience with Pro/Engineer/Creo, 3D modeling, and mechanical drawing generation
- Experience using MATLAB, Simulink, and dSpace
- Proven design and manufacturing knowledge in machined parts, injection‑molded parts, hobbing, broaching, sheet‑metal fabrication, BLDC motors, wire harnesses/flex harnesses, corrosion‑resistant steels, and aluminum alloys
Salary range: 86,800
USD – 165,200
USD.
