Position Overview
Electrical Subsystems Digital Senior Principal Engineer in the Advanced Effector Guidance Systems Department (AEGS) – Hardware Engineering – at RTX, Tucson, AZ. This role focuses on leading digital design and subsystem architecture for advanced guidance systems, requiring a U.S. Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
LocationTucson, Arizona (US-AZ-TUCSON-M02 – 1151 E Hermans Rd – BLDG M02).
Key Responsibilities- Lead digital design efforts for development guidance systems.
- Develop architectural design of the guidance subsystem, conducting trade studies, requirements decomposition, and detailed design.
- Accountable for program execution, including cost, schedule, and technical oversight throughout the early development lifecycle.
- Support component level design and test reviews.
- Mentor peers as part of RTX’s mentoring culture.
- Collaborate with functional teams, program leadership, customers, and suppliers.
- Travel (~25%) as required.
- Assist in guiding a team through design, analysis, architecture, requirement documentation, test planning, peer reviews, presentations, and root‑cause failure investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM and minimum 10 years of relevant experience (analogue, digital, power electronics).
- Experience in decomposition of high-level requirements into actionable electronics and subsystem architecture.
- Subsystem architectural design and involvement in Digital sub‑systems, systems engineering, requirements development, validation, CCA design, digital test integration, or digital supplier management.
- Hands‑on troubleshooting of digital or analog hardware and complex circuit card assemblies.
- Active U.S. Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship.
- Proficiency with CCA schematic capture, interconnect capture, and harness design tools.
- Leadership in complex subsystem development during Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development phases.
- Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related fields is preferred.
- Analytical systems‑engineering mindset and ability to balance process discipline with rapid innovation.
- Project‑leadership experience and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience with military missiles or similar systems.
- Knowledge of mixed‑signal electronics and all phases of product development lifecycle.
- Proposal development and large trade‑study leadership experience.
- Ability to materialize conceptual designs into system‑of‑systems integration.
Competitive salary range: $132,400 – $251,600 USD.
