Software​/System Safety Engineer II

Overview

Our System Safety team is dedicated to evaluating and mitigating the safety risks that our products may pose to the world, specifically to people, hardware, and the environment. By applying rigorous engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques, the team ensures that safety is optimized throughout every phase of the system’s lifecycle. System Safety is an integral part of the design process, functioning as a critical component within the broader systems engineering framework.

From concept development to deployment and beyond, the team works to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement solutions to enhance product safety and reliability for our warfighters.

• Participate in the execution of the Software System Safety Program.
• Perform MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
• Execute the safety strategy for the program to meet all milestones with system safety and HSI features integrated into the product.
• Analyze engineering software in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, and other relevant standards.
• Work with software development teams to review and analyze software code.
• Assist with software analyses and interface with various stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds.
• Assist with the preparation of Safety Assessment Reports, as well as other safety analyses and Safety Program Briefs.
• Assist with software safety technical reviews.
• Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design.
• Engage the Lead System Safety Engineer and Portfolio Engineering Lead for guidance on technical execution, artifact review, and customer reviews.
• Support multi-IPT program meetings to ensure that system safety items are considered and to understand current program-wide issues.
• Ensure program leadership understands system safety requirements, hazards, and planned mitigations.

• U.S. citizenship required; capability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance, specifically an active DoD Secret clearance.
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those included in MIL-STD-882E.
• Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
• Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to a System Safety program.
• Experience reviewing software code and requirements.
• Experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Experience interfacing with Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Hardware Engineering.
• Experience managing working groups.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. Benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. This role is a U.S.

-based role; appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply for candidates residing in a U.S. territory.
