Affordability Cost Modeler
Raytheon's Strategy & Technology Center is seeking an Affordability Cost Modeler to develop, execute, and maintain cost models that assess system affordability across the product lifecycle. The role collaborates with engineering, operations, supply chain, and affordability teams to identify cost drivers and generate accurate model inputs. Although not client-facing, the position ensures internal program teams have reliable, traceable cost data to support lifecycle management milestones and affordability commitments.
Overall, the Cost Modeler integrates technical, design, manufacturing, supplier, and sustainment factors into a unified cost framework that supports informed, data-driven decision making.
This is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do- Support the development and execution of cost models for development, production, and sustainment forecasting.
- Populate cost model inputs using validated engineering, operations, supplier, and financial data.
- Identify key cost drivers and evaluate how technical or manufacturing decisions influence cost outcomes.
- Contribute to analyses for Design-to-Cost (DTC), Cost-as-an-Independent-Variable (CAIV), and lifecycle cost modeling (LCC/TOC).
- Apply basic statistical methods such as trend analysis, simple regression, and variance analysis to assess cost behavior.
- Perform sensitivity analyses related to quantity, production rate, design changes, and supplier variations.
- Maintain traceable data, assumptions logs, and documentation to support model credibility.
- Support Business Case Analyses (BCA's) and evaluations of cost-reduction opportunity (CRO).
- Collaborate with Affordability Leads and senior Modelers to align cost modeling with program requirements and RLPM needs.
- Update cost models as new data becomes available to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) a minimum of 2 years prior relevant experience.
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, and/or supply-chain environments or concepts.
- Experience with analysis in at least one of the following: cost modeling, economics, statistics, and/or quantitative data interpretation.
- Active and transferrable Top Secret security clearance.
- Degree or advanced degree in Mathematics, Data Analytics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Business Analytics, or a related analytical field
- Exposure to cost analysis, operations research, engineering economics, or related disciplines.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charts).
- Ability to communicate technical and cost concepts clearly to internal teammates.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting assumptions and processes.
