WSP is seeking a highly motivated experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our team in our Tucson, AZ;

You will be engaged with multiple mining projects nationally and globally in providing stormwater management solutions. Tasks will include hydraulic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design, fieldwork, project planning, data analysis, design, drawing support, and construction support. The ideal candidate will have effective verbal and written communication skills and will take ownership in delivering quality project deliverables to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions and recommendations for engineering and design projects.
YourImpact
- Perform specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide stormwater management solutions for mining facilities for existing and potential clients
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design
- Prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references
- Assist with the development of technical reports, drawings and specifications
- Prepare reservoir and pond designs including outlet works and spillway designs
- Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks
- Work with CAD designers to produce drawings from conceptual to construction-level design including grading and drainage plans, profiles, details, and sections
- Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule
- Interact with clients, subcontractors, and other business partners in a confident and professional manner
- Apply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problems
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete design, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operations
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
In addition to the core responsibilities listed above, this role may occasionally include:
- Support project teams with data analysis and interpretation
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental engineering
· Engineer in Training Certification and the desire to pursue a professional engineering license - 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in water resources engineering including experience creating engineering designs and hydrologic and hydraulics models
- Experience with industry software programs (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D)
- Demonstrates high level skills in utilizing computer software and applications to solve complex engineering problems.
- Proficient knowledge of stormwater evaluation and design engineering principles, practices, process (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design)
- Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
- Experience producing high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects including technical memorandums and reports
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly recognize significant discrepancies and logic errors
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Willingness and ability to listen carefully to instructions, assimilate large amounts of information, and adapt to changes quickly.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
