These year-round, part-time internships are designed for undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in an engineering or planning program.

You will perform a variety of administrative, operational, and technical tasks within the Planning and Engineering Division or Mobility, Innovation & Technology Division in the Transportation Department. This will include opportunities for coordinating stakeholders for transportation planning meetings, use of Geographic Information Systems, project development and engineering reviews, and traffic engineering and operation exercises. This classification is in the unclassified service and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.

Positions within this classification will perform a variety of administrative, operational or technical tasks as assigned by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level in an engineering (e.g., mechanical, civil, electrical) or related science discipline appropriate to department's needs (e.g., hydrology, environmental sciences, architecture, watershed management, transportation, soil & water science, computer science, data analytics, etc.). Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the  Education  and  Work Experience  sections of the application.

Preferred Qualifications

Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate level technology, civil engineering or planning degree program. Previous course work in the systems, engineering or planning undergraduate or graduate programs. Experience with written and verbal communication as illustrated by previous reports, presentations, or class participation. Experience with/knowledge of transportation engineering/planning principles and methodologies, as demonstrated through coursework or prior work experience. Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.

Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
