Position Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer – Engine & Cooling Systems will join the Large Mining Trucks and Off-Highway Truck Engine/Power Installation and Cooling team, which designs systems that integrate engine and cooling interfaces into machine platforms. This role involves component-level design with a high degree of integration across engine and cooling installation subsystems, including air intake lines, cooling module structures, exhaust components, and fuel lines.
Design scope includes tube and hose routings, simple and complex fabricated steel structures, component mounting systems, and non-metallic components. Applicable engineering disciplines include fluid mechanics, kinematics, machine design, strength of materials, structural fatigue, and heat transfer.
Key Responsibilities
Determine project scope and necessary actions upon receipt of new projects
Perform Creo 3D modeling and manage the change notification process
Collaborate with other system teams on space claim as needed
Partner with operations to "Go, See, Act" on factory-related issues
Review field history and implement lessons learned
Coordinate updates to drawings and engineering notices
Work with cross-functional teams to schedule production implementation
Team & Collaboration
This onsite position is based in Tucson, AZ, working with a local team of 5-6, alongside extended team members in Illinois and India. The broader team is split between Tucson, AZ and Decatur, IL. This role collaborates with:
Other system teams (Cooling Components, Electrical, Light Structures, etc.) and the Large Mining Truck Product Group
Operations, including factory assemblers, quality engineers, and manufacturing engineers
Suppliers, to understand process limitations and improvements
Work Environment
Primarily office and factory environments, with potential visits to suppliers and proving ground facilities as necessary.
