We are partnering with a leading aerospace aluminum manufacturer seeking a hands-on Metallurgy Manager to serve as the technical SME.
This is not a traditional quality systems or documentation-focused role. This person will work directly with manufacturing, operations, engineering, operators, and customers to troubleshoot metallurgical and manufacturing issues, identify the source of product defects, and drive permanent corrective actions.
The facility supports the aerospace industry and manufactures seamless aluminum tube products in an environment with extremely high expectations for quality and on-time delivery.
Responsibilities- Serve as the technical SME for metallurgy, product quality, and manufacturing processes
- Troubleshoot metallurgical, thermal, mechanical, and finished-product defects
- Identify where breakdowns occur within the manufacturing process
- Work directly with operators and manufacturing leadership to solve production issues
- Investigate nonconforming material and determine root cause and disposition
- Drive corrective actions to prevent recurring and downstream quality issues
- Support customer technical requirements, specifications, and product concerns
- Review manufacturing processes, testing results, mechanical properties, and process performance
- Support heat treatment and thermal process controls
- Partner with quality, manufacturing, engineering, and commercial teams
- Support customer complaint investigations and technical problem solving
- Help ensure aerospace products consistently meet demanding internal and customer standards
- Strong metallurgy or materials engineering background
- Experience working with metals in a manufacturing environment
- Aluminum experience strongly preferred
- Aluminum extrusion experience highly desirable
- Aerospace metals experience preferred
- Experience troubleshooting finished-product defects and manufacturing process problems
- Strong root cause analysis and corrective action experience
- Comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor with operators and production teams
- Experience working with demanding customer specifications
- Heat treatment or thermal processing experience preferred
- NADCAP experience is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline preferred
The strongest candidates will be technically deep, hands-on, curious, and comfortable getting into the details of how the product is actually being manufactured.
