Overview
Position: Senior/Lead VFX Artist
Location: Remote
This is a startup opportunity seeking a founder-level contributor. It is initially unpaid with potential for equity and/or profit sharing depending on investment/funding and project needs.
MissionWe’re developing an exciting new fantasy/sci-fi IP and genre-defying game, blending fast-paced multiplayer action/combat with familiar MMORPG mechanics. Our broader mission is to push genre boundaries, create immersive experiences, and share success with our developers while maintaining work/life balance.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a talented Senior or Lead VFX Artist to join our team and shape the visual effects of our game. As the Lead or Senior VFX Artist, you will oversee and execute a wide range of visual effects that bring combat and magical environments to life.
Responsibilities- Mentor or lead and manage the VFX team, providing direction, guidance, and feedback.
- Collaborate with the Art Director and other leads to ensure high-quality, consistent VFX.
- Create and implement VFX assets for spell casting, including magical explosions, fire, smoke, and other mystical effects.
- Work with shaders and materials to achieve desired effects.
- Optimize VFX assets for performance while maintaining artistic integrity.
- Contribute to visual style guides and ensure VFX adhere to them.
- Contribute ideas and solutions to artistic challenges and stay updated on industry trends.
- Extensive experience in VFX production for games, including particle systems, fluid simulations, and dynamic effects.
- Proficiency in industry-standard VFX software (e.g., Houdini, Embergen or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of P workflows and material creation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Solid understanding of game development pipelines and workflows.
- Portfolio showcasing a diverse range of VFX skills and styles.
- Solid understanding of Unreal Engine 5.
- Passion for games and fantasy/sci-fi genres.
- Previous experience in VFX and/or artistic leadership roles.
- Knowledge of technical art techniques for optimizing VFX assets.
- Previous experience working on large-scale projects.
