General

Summary:

The Treasury Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the cash, investment, and liquidity management activities of a complex, multi‑entity nonprofit organization. This role ensures that adequate cash is available to meet operational needs, manages banking and investment relationships, oversees cash forecasting, and ensures strong internal controls. The Treasury Manager collaborates closely with finance, accounting, development, and program teams to support organizational stability, regulatory compliance, and long‑term financial sustainability.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Treasury Operations & Cash Management

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow forecasts across all entities and restricted/unrestricted funds.
  • Monitor cash positions, consolidate balances, and perform inter‑entity transfers while ensuring compliance with donor restrictions and grant requirements.
  • Manage cash pooling, sweep accounts, and short‑term investment strategies to optimize liquidity.
  • Evaluate and maintain banking structures to ensure efficient transaction processing and minimized fees.

Banking & Investment Management

  • Serve as primary liaison with banking partners, investment managers, and financial institutions.
  • Oversee opening/closing of accounts, authorized signers, and banking documentation across entities.
  • Monitor investment portfolios in accordance with board‑approved investment policies, ethical guidelines, and risk tolerance.
  • Coordinate periodic investment reporting and performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, treasury policies, investment policies, and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee fraud prevention measures, including positive pay, ACH controls, and user access reviews.
  • Assist in managing debt agreements, covenant reporting, and credit facilities.
  • Support external audit requirements related to cash, investments, and debt.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Strengthen and document treasury policies, procedures, and internal controls across multiple entities.
  • Implement and optimize treasury technology, banking platforms, and automation tools.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of treasury processes to improve efficiency, security, and visibility.

Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Work closely with accounting to ensure accurate cash reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Provide cash flow analysis to leadership and the Board to support strategic planning and long‑term financial decisions.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities related to cash and capital planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required or equivalent experience; MBA or professional certification (CTP, CFA, CPA) preferred.

Minimum Experience

Required:

  • 5+ years of treasury, cash management, or financial operations experience, ideally within a nonprofit or multi‑entity organization.
  • Experience managing banking relationships and investment portfolios.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, restricted funds, and grant compliance strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with nonprofit or government‑funded payroll requirements (if applicable).
  • Experience with multi‑entity or union payroll environments.
