Job Summary
Finance and Risk Management Department – Accountant II – Central Services – Classified – Salary Grade 13 – Open Until Filled.
Job Type & PayClassified. Salary Range: $60,507 – $84,718 annually (Hiring Range: $60,507 – $72,612).
Note:
5% lower salary during trainee period ($57,745.67).
The FC & R Division compiles, issues, and reviews accurate financial reports according to GAAP for inclusion in the County's ACFR.
Responsibilities- Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts, facilitate month and year-end close.
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with governmental accounting standards.
- Perform reconciliations and develop/adopt ad-hoc reports.
- Support special projects and assignments as directed.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, maintain accuracy and internal control integrity.
- Review, audit, analyze, and reconcile financial information related to grant‑funded expenditures.
- Prepare documentation to support federal, state, and county audit inspections.
- Compile and analyze data, prepare responses, and reports to program managers and the finance department regarding grant budget projections.
- Identify process improvement opportunities within the accounting function and implement efficient procedures.
- Analyze cash position, revenue, and expenditure projections.
- Lead and train staff on compliance and grant/governmental accounting activities.
- Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with supervisors, teams, and program managers.
- Provide operational advice and training on the automated financial and grants management system to departmental users.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, public or business administration, or related field.
- Or Associate’s degree with two years of accounting experience.
- Or four years of experience with Pima County in a role that reconciles and verifies accounting information or contracts/grants administration.
- Must clearly document qualifying education and experience in the application.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in finance or accounting.
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Minimum two (2) years of experience with Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, and formulas.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience performing account reconciliations.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience preparing financial journal entries.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience compiling and analyzing financial data.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a governmental accounting environment.
Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Failure to maintain the required licensure may lead to termination.
