Works under general direction from a higher authority. Has the authority to develop duty (shift) rosters, posts and assure compliance; review incident reports, initiate investigations and recommend or initiate prescribed actions; evaluate staff and prepare reports; serve in absence of a Correctional Major and/or a Correctional Administrator.

Must have passed probation as a Correctional Lieutenant in the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry by the end of the close date on this announcement.

• Letter of Recommendation required (signing authority: Deputy Warden, DWOP, Major or higher) Form 504-28
• Meet discipline eligibility guidelines (Department Order 504.2.3.2)
• Have a minimum of “Meets Expectations” on the most recent Performance Evaluation.
• Successful completion of the classification proficiency exam.
• Voluntary Demotion - Employees accepting a voluntary demotion shall remain in the classification/position entered for the following minimum periods prior to being considered for another classification/position. (Department Order 17.2.2.5.1) Voluntary demotion applicants must have an approved voluntary demotion memo on file with Talent Acquisition to be considered for a job offer. No job offers will be made without an approved voluntary demotion.
