Summary:

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) promotes member recovery through hope, respect, self‑direction, and empowerment. This role provides integrated behavioral health support, peer support, education, care coordination, advocacy, and community‑based services. The BHT works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the seamless integration of medical, behavioral health, and wellness services. Services are provided in‑home, in the community, and within agency settings to assist members with mental health and/or substance use challenges in achieving recovery goals and improved quality of life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The position is responsible, but not exclusive, for the following:

Member Support & Recovery Services
  • Provide, coaching, mentoring, and modeling of self‑advocacy and recovery values.
  • Assist members in identifying and achieving wellness (healthy lifestyle) and recovery goals.
  • Deliver peer support, personal assistance, and skills training in‑home and in the community.
  • Assist members with securing resources (housing, benefits, transportation, social services).
  • Advocate for member needs to ensure access to appropriate needs.
Care Coordination & Case Management
  • Participate in assessments and annual updates; contribute to integrated service plans.
  • Monitor treatment progress, service intensity, and adherence to care plans.
  • Coordinate referrals, linkage, and follow‑up with medical, behavioral, and community agencies.
  • Provide health education, resource navigation, and system navigation support.
  • Attend medical or behavioral health appointments with members as needed.
Crisis Prevention & Intervention
  • Provide crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and safety planning.
  • Notify supervisor of urgent concerns and respond to walk‑in/emergent needs.
  • Respond to walk‑in and emergent member needs, as assigned.
  • Participate in triage and care‑access support for members who present onsite, virtual, and/or through referral basis
Community‑Based & In‑Home Services
  • Travel to members’ residences to provide support, education, and skill‑building, based on medical necessity.
  • Transport members safely using agency or personal vehicle, per program guidelines.
  • Conduct outreach and engagement via calls, home visits, and community coordination.

Performs other related duties in accordance with agency growth and changes.

Skills & Requirements

Education:
  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field and no related experience OR;
  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree in a non‑healthcare related field and 3 months relevant related experience OR;
  • Associates’ degree in a healthcare field and 6 months related experience OR;
  • Associate’s degree in a non‑healthcare field and 1-year related experience OR;
  • Certified Medical Assistant and 1-year related experience OR;
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist and 1-year years related experience OR;
  • High School diploma or General Education Equivalent (GED and 2 years related experience.
Certifications:
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification, required.
  • Commission Certified Care Manager (CCCM), a plus.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s license, proof of current insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle. Driver’s license is an essential requirement for performing duties for this position.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record - no more than 2 moving violations or a license suspension in past 3 years.
Skills:
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of behavioral health challenges which include knowledge of the impacts of mental illness, domestic violence, and the dynamics of addictive behavior.
  • Familiarity with various ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc., importing/exporting data to/from applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Pay Information:
  • Pay Rate: from $18.00/hour
  • Pay Comments:
    Pay rate based on level of license, education and years of work experience relevant to this position.
