Job Purpose

The Registered Mammography Technologist performs digital mammograms that are of high quality. The technologist performs digital mammograms in compliance with manufacturer’s guidelines using the standard views as set forth by Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and by Federal and State Regulations. The primary goal is to support the mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions.

Job Functions
  • Operates specialized X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures including screenings and diagnostic studies.
  • Performs Digital Mammograms of high diagnostic quality.
  • Performs QA checks as recommended by the MQSA and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Performs Mammographic exams as per specified department protocols.
  • Enters radiologist findings into the mammography tracking system(s).
  • Provide a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately address or inform management of safety issues or potential hazards; adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures; participate in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
  • Interviews patients to establish breast care history and documents via the mammogram questionnaire and in the appropriate designated mammography reporting system(s).
  • Explains procedure to patients to ease anxiety and reassure the patient.
  • Ensures completed exams are sent via PACS to the Radiologist for reading.
  • Performs weekly QC on the radiologist mammography reading monitor.
  • Maintains exceptional level of customer service; address and resolve complaints; demonstrate service standards with internal and external customers, employees, and patients; model organizational behavioral standards in all interactions.
  • Demonstrates service excellence through the use of AIDET principles consistently applied with all patients, community members, co-workers, and colleagues.
  • Annually reviews job description and performance goals with department manager.
  • Reviews with Radiologists to clarify additional views and the location of nodules/masses as needed.
  • Reviews digital mammogram images with Ultra-Sonographer to ensure correct scanning of the targeted area.
  • Promotes a professional working environment that respects diversity and multiculturalism; demonstrate sensitivity and appreciation of diverse beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and customs.
  • Participates in educating patients about the importance of mammograms.
  • Educates group tours on digital mammogram procedures performed at El Rio Community Health Center.
  • Completes all work on time and ensures radiology order is complete with all documentation.
  • Completes/closes all exams in the PACS and EHR program to submit billing information to the Business Office.
  • Maintains continued mammography education as required by ARRT and MQSA standards.
  • Learns and implements new software programs into daily workflow as they become available.
  • Complies with all facility policies and procedures including HIPAA and Compliance; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.)
  • A graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Five (5) years of mammography experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations
  • Possess and maintain the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certificate
  • Possess current certificate as a Registered Mammographic Technologist from Arizona Department of Health Services.
