Position: CSP New Beginning Peer Support Aide

The New Beginnings Peer Support Aide assists adult community members, who are opioid dependent or have co-occurring disorders by providing peer support services. The incumbent utilizes shared experiences, engages the patients in life skills training designed to enhance functioning and leading to community integration and self-sufficiency, in living, social and work environments. This position provides a supportive relationship by modeling positive relationships through shared challenges, substance use education and assist clients in developing goals and life skills to cope with the stresses of emotional and familial issues that arise as a result of life choices.

  • Provide a stable, safe, and positive environment for clients, respecting privacy and confidentiality of the peer support process, when meeting to discuss issues related to coping with the results of life choices.
  • Responsible for orienting and introducing new clients to the peer support program and its objectives.
  • Under the guidance of a qualified licensed staff member, utilize shared experiences to build a bridge with clients who participate in a peer support program, monitors clients for possible crisis situations, and may document patient’s progress.
  • Ensure participants in the program receive event notifications and other document support and case management services regarding patient care in accordance with tribal regulatory requirements procedures. Adhere to peer‑support ethical standards.
  • Work with assigned participants, logs meetings and notes services and information provided. Documentation of participant contact and services provided must be recorded daily.
  • Encourage patients to access primary medical care and early intervention for chronic disease conditions.
  • Attend peer support training and on‑going additional training as required by management.
  • Assist health professionals to coordinate patient care, including contributing to patient reviews/reports and their progress in program services.
  • Participate in TTR meetings, trainings and other activities as required.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Knowledge of:
  • Ability to be trained in counseling techniques, chemical dependency treatment methods and crisis interventions.
  • Pascua Yaqui community, customs, cultural traditions, and the ability to address situations in a culturally competent manner.
  • Pascua Yaqui Behavioral Health Department's Code of Ethics.
  • Behavioral health delivery systems (ancillary services available) and the guidelines, policy and procedures.
  • Available local resources and services.
  • Local public transportation availability and knowledge of other transportation services.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Record‑keeping principles.
  • Customer service principles.
  • English language, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instruction and learn new procedures readily.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Be alert and able to calmly respond to crisis situations.
  • Work with persons in recovery.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and present as a positive role model.
  • Problem‑solving techniques.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co‑workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

Obtained an eight (8th) grade level or above education.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bi‑lingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Special Requirements :
  • Must be First Aid & CPR certified or obtain certification within one (1) month of hire.
  • The position has a requirement of a shared experience. A shared experience is defined as personally utilizing behavioral health services which may include substance abuse treatment.
  • Enrolled member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
  • Completion of Peer Support Training and Peer Support Certification.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • A valid Arizona Driver's License is preferred but not required.
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non‑traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
