Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.
Responsibilities- Prepares and positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately to produce cross‑sectional images of the body.
- Performs patient pre‑screening, scheduling, and education related to the examination.
- Enters and monitors patient data, transfers images from disk to magnetic media to produce the transparency, and develops film in an automatic processor.
- Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
- Performs MRI procedures utilizing a variety of frequencies, planes, and techniques.
- This position does not utilize ionizing radiation in the performance of imaging examinations.
- Collects pertinent patient history and documents on requisition.
- Completes pre‑MRI screening questionnaire to assess suitability for magnetic environment.
- Starts intravenous access as needed, and performs intravenous injections using proper technique.
- Understands how to treat patients with infiltrated IV sites.
- Maintains proper oxygen therapy on patients who require oxygen.
- Maintains skills required to change oxygen tanks.
- Must be familiar with the use of masks and nasal cannulae.
- Adjusts rate of O2 flow with mask/nasal cannula according to written physician orders; secures, transports, and secures e‑cylinders.
- Recognizes and responds to emergencies and life‑threatening situations.
- Promotes MR safety through education of personnel and physicians and monitors environment for potential hazards.
- Certification
Required:
ARRT‑MR, or obtain MR certification within 2 years of hire/transfer date. - Certification
Required:
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
- Required:
Graduate of an accredited radiology or accredited MRI program.
- Required:
None. - Preferred:
One (1) year experience as an MR Technologist.
