Overview
An oncology provider in Tucson, AZ is looking to hire a dynamic, patient-centered Surgery Scheduler to join their team. You will see up to 80 patients a day (40 in the morning/40 in the afternoon). You will be responsible for answering all incoming calls, assessing the caller's needs, and directing them to the appropriate person. You will schedule new patients, patient referrals, and returning patients in the computer system.
You will need to be extremely organized as you will be canceling and rescheduling appointments according to physician schedule changes and notifying appropriate clinic personnel. You will obtain and enter all insurance authorizations, and correspondence relating to referrals in patients charts and/or electronic medical records (EMR). You will arrange for patients to have financial counseling as needed. You will facilitate communication with patients about surgeries or tests being scheduled and potential prep work needed, inquiring about test specifics from necessary parties and gathering patient information as needed.
You will be responsible for follow-up on pre-operative tests to ensure the patient is cleared for the surgical procedure and will communicate with the physician and patient if further testing is required prior to surgery. It is important that you are empathic when speaking with patients and that you can handle multiple demands, shift priorities, and demonstrate flexibility.
- Answer all incoming calls, assess the caller s needs, and direct them to the appropriate person.
- Schedule new patients, patient referrals, and returning patients in the EMR.
- Cancel and reschedule appointments according to physician schedule changes; notify appropriate clinic personnel.
- Obtain and enter all insurance authorizations and correspondence relating to referrals in patients charts and/or EMR.
- Arrange for financial counseling for patients as needed.
- Facilitate communication with patients about surgeries or tests being scheduled and required prep work; gather test specifics and patient information as needed.
- Follow up on pre-operative tests to ensure patient clearance for the procedure and inform the physician and patient if further testing is required.
- Demonstrate empathy when speaking with patients and manage multiple demands with flexibility.
- 2+ years of professional scheduling experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience obtaining prior authorizations.
- Experience working with insurance providers and networks.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
- Empathic when talking with patients; thick skin.
- Chemotherapy experience.
- Bilingual.
