- Coordinate patients’ genetic counseling visits and experiences with genetic counselors and providers
- Assist genetic counselors with clinic preparation and closing
- Manage the Cerner message pool
- Educate patients and teams about the genetic counseling process
- Assist patients with documenting family histories and pedigrees
- Coordinate genetic testing orders, scheduling, and data collection
- Schedule patient visits
- Respond to and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient visits
- Perform medical assistant duties in the oncology clinic
- Prepare patients for exams and treatments; record vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
- Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
- Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
- Coordinate pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, appointments, treatments, and tests
- Communicate test results to patients
- Provide clerical support, maintain medical records, and provide billing information
- Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; maintain equipment
- Order supplies and stock patient care areas
- Perform medication-related tasks
- Complete onboarding, orientation, and simulation training as needed
- Interact with providers, staff, patients, families, physician offices, and external healthcare contacts
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
- Active Medical Assistant Certification required
- BLS certification required
- Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
- Strong computer skills, including medical software proficiency
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments preferred
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
Demonstrates expertise in coordinating genetic counseling visits, managing patient flow, and performing medical assistant duties in an oncology clinic. Proficient in medical software, patient education, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
