Position Summary

The Business and Systems Analyst 1, Benefits is responsible for monitoring financial processes and information systems to ensure the accurate and efficient administration of the College’s employee benefits programs. The position conducts benefits business processes, reviews human resources and payroll information systems, and performs data analysis to support compliance and reporting for vendors, College leadership, and other stakeholders.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyzes payroll and financial system data related to employee benefits deductions and contributions; researches and interprets information, identifies issues and discrepancies, formulates recommendations, processes adjustments, and resolves issues
  • Monitors and tracks benefits agreements and rosters; reconciles financial reports including purchasing and billing for employee insurance coverage, disability, and retirement accounts
  • Reviews benefit and deduction transactions, reports, and invoices for accuracy and compliance with benefits policies and vendor agreements
  • Compiles reports for vendors, unit leadership, departments, auditors, and regulatory agencies
  • Maintains and updates records within the benefits administration information system; ensures data accuracy and audit compliance
  • Terminates employee benefits in accordance with federal regulations, notifies benefit vendors, and sends required notifications to separated employees
  • Creates forms and spreadsheets, educates employees on available benefit options, and verifies eligibility in databases. Coordinates requests with Payroll or Student Accounts for completion
  • Coordinates essential aspects of the annual Benefits Open Enrollment period; explains employee benefit options, answers questions, and updates databases with benefits changes
  • Provides comprehensive customer service and support by addressing employee inquiries and responding to phone calls and emails
  • Participates as an active and contributing member of a team to achieve goals
  • Maintains effective partnerships with College staff and administrators to resolve common problems and develop approaches to ensure efficient coordination of services
  • Participates in professional development to ensure maintenance of required qualifications and current knowledge in the field
Job Requirements /Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field of study is required and
  • One year of related experience in Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, or Business Information Systems

or

  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

Preferred:

  • One year to three years of progressive and combined experience in human resources, payroll, finance, or business information systems
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of human resources principles and practice
  • Knowledge of business management and fiscal practice
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practice
  • Knowledge of human resources and business information systems including cloud-based and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
  • Ability to use computers, including portable computing devices and applicable peripherals, operating systems and software
  • Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles
  • Skill in analyzing data and drawing conclusions
  • Knowledge of internal and external customer service principles and practices
  • Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Skill in problem solving
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills as well as draw conclusions and prepare accurate reports of results
