The United States Attorney's Office (USAO), District of Arizona is seeking an attorney experienced in civil litigation to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division of its Tucson, Arizona office. The USAO serves as the Government's law firm for all aspects of federal litigation, including defending the U.S. Government's interests in civil cases.
The work of the Civil Division mirrors the varied activities of the federal government and offers a challenging and diverse caseload. Civil Division AUSAs handle a broad range of cases involving significant and complex matters at both the trial and appellate levels. The primary responsibility of the attorney selected for this position will be defensive litigation in federal district courts and federal appellate courts.
The selected AUSA will represent the U.S. Government and its agencies/components and employees in defensive matters including: personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death and other tort actions; employment discrimination actions; immigration matters; prisoner litigation; and constitutional challenges to governmental policies, activities and decisions. Day to day responsibilities include working with client agencies to gather information, engaging in motions practice, preparing and answering discovery requests, defending and taking depositions, retaining and working with experts, negotiating settlements, trying cases, and briefing and arguing appeals.
Given the breadth of the Civil Division's work, flexibility and a willingness to learn new subject areas are ideal traits for any applicant.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Salary Information:
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $$78,204.00 to $ Per Year which includes Tucson locality pay.
