Job Title and Classification

Elections Aide – Early Boards (Classified position, Grade 1, Salary $17.04–$20.03 per hour; hiring range $17.04–$23.02).

Basic Duties
  • Process early ballots.
  • Manually count envelopes against reports.
  • Complete daily logs of processed work.
  • Apply strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information effectively.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Be available to work on‑call as needed and to work overtime for extended periods.
Essential Functions
  • Process early ballots for tabulation.
  • Prepare election supplies and voting machines for delivery to poll locations.
  • Make minor mechanical and electrical repairs on voting equipment.
  • Load and unload election supplies and other materials.
  • Transport and receive election ballots, returns, and precinct supplies.
Minimum Qualifications

Must be a registered voter with current registration in Pima County.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write “see resume” on your application.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with office practices.
  • Experience with math principles.
  • Experience with written and oral instructions and communication.
  • Experience with safety procedures for moving supplies.
  • Experience performing operator‑level maintenance on assigned voting equipment.
  • Experience interpreting street guides or maps.
Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated and scored against any advertised preferred qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.

Additional assessments or testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Positions require an Election Officer Certification & Training Program completed and maintained as directed by the Arizona Secretary of State’s office.
  • Failure to obtain or maintain the required certification or licensure shall be grounds for termination.
  • Valid driver license required at time of application.
  • Valid Arizona driver license required at time of appointment.
  • Successful applicant will be subject to a 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability to operate county vehicles under Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Any offer of employment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Background Check

Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems. The County requires pre‑employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post‑offer, pre‑employment background screening that includes verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.

Physical

Physical and sensory abilities to be determined by position. Expected activities include constant computer use, operating office machinery, observing details at close range, remaining in a stationary position, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping, grasping, hearing in noisy areas, speaking in person, on phone, and on cell, and vision requirements for operating a motor vehicle and distinguishing colors. Occasionally moves office equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
