About the Job

Krosswood Doors is scaling operations and looking for a disciplined, process-driven Packaging & Shipping Manager to own the critical final mile of our manufacturing process. This role sits at the intersection of quality assurance, operational excellence, and logistics.

You won't just be managing the packaging and shipping teams; you will be the final gatekeeper of the Krosswood Doors brand reputation. In the door industry, packaging is an engineering challenge-balancing robust protection for heavy, fragile products against the need for speed and cost efficiency. If you are obsessed with Lean Manufacturing, thrive on 6S workplace organization, and have a track record of driving down freight damage claims through rigorous process improvement, this role is for you.

What You'll Own (Core Responsibilities):
  • Packaging Operations & Engineering You will oversee the end-to-end packaging process for finished door assemblies (slabs, pre-hungs, Quick Assemble kits). You will move beyond "boxing things up" to implementing a standardized packaging system that ensures product integrity. You will optimize material usage to reduce waste and cost while ensuring every unit meets our strict protection standards for LTL and full truckload transit.
  • Shipping & Logistics Management You will act as "Air Traffic Control" for our outbound operations. You are responsible for the precise scheduling, staging, and loading of daily shipments. You will coordinate closely with the Warehouse and Production teams to ensure On-Time Shipping. You will manage carrier relationships, optimize load planning (cube optimization), and ensure all documentation (BOLs, manifests) is flawless to prevent transit delays.
  • Freight Claim Reduction & Quality Control You will be the primary defense against shipping damage. You will implement Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for every freight claim and return, using data to identify whether the failure happened in packaging, staging, or carrier handling. You will drive a "Zero Defect" mentality on the dock, ensuring that no damaged product ever leaves our facility.
  • Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement You will be the champion of the Toyota Production System (TPS) on the shipping floor. You will lead Kaizen events to eliminate the "Seven Wastes"-specifically targeting motion, waiting, and defects. You will implement Visual Management systems so that the status of the floor is understood at a glance, and you will drive measurable improvements in throughput and labor cost per unit.
  • 6S Implementation & Safety Leadership You will own the safety and organization of the packaging and dock areas. You will implement and sustain a rigorous 6S program (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety). You will design ergonomic workstations to protect the team from injury and maintain a showroom-quality shipping zone that facilitates efficient material flow.
What Success Looks Like:

You'll be successful in this role if you can command the floor and consistently deliver:
  • Drastic reduction in freight damage claims and packaging-related returns.
  • Best-in-class On Time Shipping scores with accurate, real-time tracking updates.
  • A Visual Factory environment where 6S is a habit, not a monthly chore.
  • Labor efficiency gains through standardized work and improved department layout.
  • A safety-first culture with zero incidents.
What You Bring to the Table:

Required Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in packaging, shipping, or manufacturing operations.
  • Product Expertise:
Experience shipping large, irregular, or fragile goods (Millwork, Furniture, Windows, or Building Materials is highly preferred over standard palletized retail goods).
  • Lean DNA:
Demonstrated hands-on experience implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives (Kaizen, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Strong Data Fluency:
Ability to track and analyze KPIs (Freight Cost as % of Revenue, Claims Ratio, Labor Efficiency) to drive decision-making.
  • TQM Mindset:
Experience applying Total Quality Management principles to logistics.
  • 6S Rigor:
Proven ability to implement and audit 6S systems in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Skills & Certifications (Highly Preferred):
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Management.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Net Suite, SAP) and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).
  • Deep understanding of LTL (Less Than Truckload) vs. FTL freight dynamics and carrier
Benefits:
  • Paid Time Off
  • Holiday Pay
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and more
  • 401k plan offered
Salary Range $65,000 - $85,000 / year plus bonus
