Advanced Coating Technician

Position Overview

Surface preparation, coating, finishing, and inspection of fabricated parts, assemblies, composite structures, airframes, and test equipment using a variety of coating technologies. Operate robotic, automatic, and manual equipment, ensuring compliance with engineering, manufacturing, and quality specifications.

• Set up, adjust, and operate coating equipment, spray guns, airbrushes, and related tools.
• Perform masking, grit blasting, chemical etching, and other surface preparation operations.
• Mix and adjust coating materials to required specifications.
• Conduct process verifications such as temperature, humidity, and cleanliness checks.
• Make minor equipment adjustments and troubleshoot to maintain proper operation.
• Handle hazardous materials and waste in accordance with safety and environmental requirements.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Perform in-process inspection and verification using standard and precision measuring instruments.
• Collaborate with engineering, process floor support, and other technical personnel on new coatings or procedures.
• Perform rework or corrective actions as required.
• Ensure all work is conducted safely with PPE and regulatory standards.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year of experience applying advanced coatings such as paints, epoxies, and urethanes on fabricated parts, assemblies, or composite structures.
• Experience with surface preparation using Bondo®, masking, grit blasting, sanding, and chemical rinsing processes.
• Experience preparing, measuring, mixing, and adjusting paints to desired thickness and viscosity.
• Proficiency in selecting correct nozzles, pressure settings, or coating solutions to meet specifications.
• Experience troubleshooting and making minor adjustments to coating equipment.
• Minimum 1 year of experience handling hazardous materials, including mixing, storage, and disposal in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Experience working in environments requiring Personal Protective Equipment such as air hoods, respirators, or Tyvek garments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. secret clearance prior to the start date.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an ATF clearance.
