Machinist II–IV
The Machinist II–IV role is responsible for the precision manufacture of components using both CNC and manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM technologies. Work includes set-up, programming, operation, fabrication, and process improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment requiring strict adherence to engineering specifications and quality standards. As levels progress, employees move from executing defined machining operations to independent problem-solving, process optimization, and leadership responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Machinist IISet up and operate CNC and manual machines including mills, lathes, and EDM equipment. Utilize G&M code programming and maintain close tolerances. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and sketches. Perform fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of parts. Measure parts using precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, and CMM. Maintain compliance with GMP, SOPs, and safety standards. Support continuous improvement and follow standard processes.
Work under minimal supervision handling routine to moderately complex tasks.
Perform all Machinist II duties with greater independence. Operate advanced CNC equipment including multi-axis and EDM systems. Design fixtures and improve machining processes. Troubleshoot non-routine machining issues. Provide training and guidance to lower-level machinists. Work under limited supervision with independent decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Machinist IVPerform all Machinist III duties while serving as technical expert. Lead CNC programming, setup, and process optimization. Develop new machining processes and improve efficiencies. Design advanced fixtures and reduce setup times. Lead continuous improvement initiatives. Provide coaching, mentorship, and supervise machinists. Resolve complex technical issues and ensure quality compliance.
Education and ExperienceMachinist II: 4–6 years of experience or technical training. Machinist III: 4–7 years of experience with advanced proficiency. Machinist IV: 4–7+ years with leadership and advanced programming expertise.
Skills and CompetenciesAll Levels:
Programming experience (Gibbs CAM/Esprit) a plus. CNC/manual machining, blueprint reading, CAD/CAM, precision measurement, and problem-solving. Machinist II:
Applies standard machining techniques with attention to detail. Machinist III:
Advanced troubleshooting and process improvement. Machinist IV:
Leadership, process development, and technical authority.
Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise. Requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must adhere to safety protocols and PPE requirements.
