Position SummaryJob Summary
The Shift Lead Materials serves as the operational leader for the assigned shift by coordinating daily material flow activities while providing technical guidance, work direction, and leadership to the material flow team. This position supports production priorities by ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely movement of materials throughout the facility. The Materials Team Lead remains a working leader, performing material handling responsibilities while mentoring team members, promoting standard work, and serving as the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational decisions.
ResponsibilitiesJob Duties
- Coordinates daily work assignments and material flow priorities for the assigned shift.
- Provides work direction and technical guidance to Material Handlers.
- Prioritizes production support activities to ensure material is delivered to manufacturing on time.
- Coordinates receiving, put away, inventory movement, shipping preparation, and order kitting activities.
- Serves as the first point of contact for operational issues and escalates concerns as appropriate.
- Assists with labor balancing and workflow adjustments to meet changing business priorities.
- Monitors inventory accuracy and ensures proper MRP transactions are completed.
- Leads cycle counts and inventory discrepancy investigations.
- Assists with physical inventory activities.
- Trains, mentors, and develops material flow team members.
- Provides performance observations and developmental feedback to the Materials Supervisor.
- Promotes compliance with safety, quality, and standard work requirements.
- Supports Lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Leads Material Flow TIB and drives key performance metric improvements.
- Demonstrates proficiency in all department skills and responsibilities and performs material handling duties as operational needs require.
- Operational Leadership:
Coordinates daily workflow, assigns priorities, and provides work direction to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely execution of material flow activities. - Coaching & Team Development:
