Position: Residential Team Member (Overnight)

Primavera is co-creating pathways out of poverty through safe, affordable housing, workforce development, financial empowerment and home ownership, and civic and community building and engagement.

About the role

The Primavera Men’s Shelter provides up to 90 nights of shelter to approximately 60 men on a nightly basis. The program is essential to single men experiencing homelessness. Services provided to participants include meals, showers, hygiene products, some clothing, and case management to assist participants in obtaining more permanent housing and income from either employment or mainstream benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • 1 year of experience working with people experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, housing insecurities, or lived experience.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and software, including database programs.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends as needed, and be flexible to meet shelter needs.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of current registration and insurance coverage to attend off-site meetings and travel between locations.
  • Serv Safe Certification, or the ability to obtain.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One year of experience working with people in a shelter setting, or trauma-related work experience, or direct behavioral health services.
  • Extensive Knowledge working with people experiencing addiction or mental health issues.
  • Extensive Knowledge of community services and ability to coordinate.
  • Knowledge of Service Point (HMIS) system to easily transition into position.
Schedule:
  • Friday - Tuesday: 10 p.m.

    - 6:30 a.m.
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays off

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Interact professionally with participants, volunteers, and fellow employees, reflecting Primavera’s Guiding Principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadership.
  • Assist with the orientation process and welcome participants in the residential setting, providing guidelines, answering questions, ensuring adherence to rules, encouraging positive behaviors, responding to issues and problems, and ensuring a professional, respectful, and safe environment.
  • Cross-train in all Residential Team Member duties, as outlined in this description.
  • Provide coverage for and assistance to other Residential Team Members as assigned.
  • Provide support in daily Shelter operations, including laundry, food, maintenance, cleaning, and perimeter checks.
  • Complete random rounds a minimum of once every hour.
  • Accurately complete required paperwork for any shift, including Unusual Incident Reports
  • Keep the daily log of participant information and shelter happenings up to date with relevant and thorough information.
  • Carry out Shelter guidelines and maintain a peaceful environment at all times.
  • Communicate any participant concerns to the Program Manager, Resource Specialists, and other Residential Team Members, and ensure a shift note is sent out at the end of each shift.
  • Participate in debriefings at each shift change.
  • Complete required data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Issue receipts for donations as appropriate.
  • Allocate participant beds, 1:1s logging information in the shelter database.
  • Recruit participant volunteers for the chore list.
  • Train, assist, and supervise participant volunteers in completing their assigned chores.
  • Work as independent leaders with volunteers and participants.
  • Supervise participant volunteers at all times.
  • Answer the telephone, taking messages as appropriate.
  • Safeguard the inside and outside areas of the shelter.
  • Prepare coffee and set up by 6:00 am during the week, 7:00 am on weekends, assist with breakfast prep, and provide other assistance needed in the kitchen.
