A respected, large‑scale acute care medical center in Southern Arizona is seeking an accomplished Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide executive nursing leadership for a highly complex healthcare organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for a transformational nurse executive to join a financially stable, growth‑oriented healthcare system and make a significant impact on clinical quality, patient outcomes, employee engagement, and organizational performance.

This flagship facility serves as a regional referral center and offers an extensive range of advanced clinical services, including trauma care, neuroscience, cardiovascular services, oncology, orthopedics, women's services, robotic surgery, and comprehensive stroke care.

About the Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Nursing Officer serves as the senior nursing executive for the organization and is responsible for the strategic, clinical, operational, and financial leadership of nursing services across the hospital.

The CNO will provide vision, direction, and oversight for nursing practice, patient care delivery, quality improvement, workforce engagement, regulatory compliance, and organizational performance. This executive leader will collaborate closely with physicians, executive leadership, and governing boards to advance strategic initiatives and drive exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Executive Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as the chief nursing executive and key member of the senior leadership team.
  • Develop and execute nursing strategies aligned with organizational goals and long‑term growth initiatives.
  • Lead transformational change initiatives that improve quality, safety, efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Represent nursing leadership at executive, physician, and board‑level meetings.
Clinical Excellence & Patient Outcomes
  • Ensure delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centered care throughout the organization.
  • Establish and maintain clinical practice standards and nursing excellence initiatives.
  • Drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Workforce Leadership
  • Lead nursing recruitment, retention, succession planning, and leadership development efforts.
  • Foster an engaged, collaborative, and high‑performing nursing culture.
  • Support professional development, education, and career advancement opportunities.
  • Build strong leadership teams focused on employee engagement and workforce stability.
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead patient safety, risk reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement action plans to improve performance.
  • Maintain readiness for surveys, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
Financial & Operational Performance
  • Provide oversight of labor management, productivity, operational budgets, and capital planning.
  • Optimize staffing models and resource utilization while maintaining exceptional patient care standards.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to support strategic decision‑making.
Physician & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build collaborative relationships with physicians, medical staff leaders, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Support shared governance and frontline nursing engagement initiatives.
  • Strengthen academic partnerships and nursing pipeline development programs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
Qualifications Required
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive senior nursing leadership experience in an acute care hospital environment.
