Job Summary

We are seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to support veterans at the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services (ADVS). This role provides direct patient care and supports the facility’s management system and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Duties
  • Assist veterans/members with transfers, ambulation, eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, and other ADLs
  • Follow instructions to use simple procedures and devices to strengthen veterans’ limbs and maintain flexibility
  • Assist nursing staff with simple medical procedures such as suppositories, enemas, treatments, post‑surgical care, and post‑mortem care
  • Assist in monitoring physical and mental status of veterans/members by utilizing appropriate medical equipment and techniques to take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations); obtain urine, sputum or stool samples; and track input/output
  • Maintain medical records and worksheet documentation on all assigned veterans/members, keeping records and preparing simple reports
  • Assist veterans/members with dining, including transporting to the dining room, informing them of menu choices, communicating with dining staff, and serving meals in courses
  • Provide resident care and comfort by responding to patient requests (verbal or call light) for assistance promptly in accordance with the Resident Bill of Rights
  • Maintain cleanliness of areas, keeping spaces neat and sanitary by changing bedding, linens, and other items
  • Report to and assist licensed nurses in emergency situations rapidly and appropriately following established policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties such as transporting veterans/members to appointments outside the facility and clerical duties (e.g., answering phones, filing) as needed
  • Actively involved in AMS processes such as Huddle Boards, Problem Solving, Job Breakdown Sheets, Success Tracking, and Standardized Work
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, and techniques of para‑professional nursing care, treatment and services appropriate to the work setting
  • State and agency laws and regulations governing para‑professional nursing practices
  • Practices and procedures for using medical equipment in assigned duties
  • Practices and procedures established for the work environment
  • Practices and techniques applied in maintaining a safe, orderly, therapeutic, and hygienic environment

Skills in:

  • Applying methods and techniques of para‑professional nursing practices
  • Interpreting State and agency laws and regulations governing para‑professional nursing practices

Ability to:

Selective Preferences

One or more years of skilled nursing facility or long‑term care experience preferred.

Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Current or temporary license to practice as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of Arizona
