Location
Tucson, Arizona – Banner University Medical Campus, 1625 N Campbell Ave, Tucson (in‑patient). Secondary outpatient clinic at Banner University Medical Center Tucson North, 3838 N Campbell Ave, Tucson.
ScheduleFull Time – 40 Hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
Position SummaryThe Transplant Coordinator RN is responsible for the comprehensive management and coordination of care for patients requiring kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung or stem cell transplantation. The role involves scheduling, coordination of organ placement, patient education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Core Functions- Manage individual patients across the transplant continuum to achieve optimal clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction outcomes.
- Facilitate, coordinate, and monitor pre‑transplant evaluations and post‑transplant care in outpatient clinics.
- Coordinate care of living donors through evaluation, donation, and long‑term follow‑up.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to plan and implement patient treatment plans, using effective oral and written communication.
- Ensure safe, equitable, and timely placement of donor organs in partnership with the donor procurement agency, possessing advanced knowledge of OPTN/UNOS regulations and allocation policies.
- Collect and communicate patient information for organ acceptance/rejection decisions, and determine eligibility for transplant.
- Apply knowledge of payor contracts to meet financial needs while maximizing reimbursement, obtaining necessary authorizations for all transplant services.
- Serve as a resource for physicians, payors, patients, and community members regarding the transplant process, and develop educational and marketing programs.
- Participate in programs to promote transplantation and organ donation, including community and professional education efforts.
- Engage in the transplant program’s quality assurance activities, identifying and implementing process improvements to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Current RN license in the state of practice.
- BLS certification.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, including one of the following specialties: ICU, PCU, CM, OR, ED, Dialysis, Oncology, or Telemetry.
- Working knowledge of care management, resource/utilization management, and hospital/community resources.
- Clinical proficiency in the care of transplant patients.
- Critical thinking skills for coordinating a large volume of patients simultaneously.
- Problem‑solving abilities, effective oral and written communication, time‑management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team format.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous transplant experience.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
