Position Summary

This registered nurse position focuses on the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care for medical‑surgical and progressive care patients on a 17‑bed unit. The Nurse works during the night shift (7:00PM–7:30AM), full‑time, with a flat 18% night differential, $3/hour weekend differential, and a self‑scheduling tool for coverage.

Core Functions
  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge‑planning needs; reviews history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers; completes assessment and reassessment according to policy.
  • Formulates a patient‑centered plan of care, including discharge planning; collaborates with family and multidisciplinary team; develops realistic, measurable goals; revises plan as patient status changes.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team; provides nursing supervision to other licensed nurses; promotes continuity of care via accurate communication to other caregivers.
  • Evaluates patient and family responses to care and teaching; revises plans as needed; evaluates progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with team members.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; maintains legible, timely documentation per policy.
  • Provides care based on the best available evidence; may participate in research activities; contributes to unit or facility leadership; engages in education, role development, orientation, and mentoring of facility personnel.
  • Promotes excellent patient outcomes through timely, evidence‑based, efficient, equitable, and safe care; participates in quality improvement initiatives and professional organizations.
  • Supervises staff and workflow in some roles, directing licensed and non‑licensed personnel to provide quality care and services.
  • Interacts with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts; collaborates with clergy for spiritual support; synthesizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Directly reporting:
    None. Matrix or indirect reporting:
    Provides direction and supervision to licensed and non‑licensed personnel in activities necessary to provide quality care and services. Supervisory responsibilities are not required for this specific opening; however, the candidate may mentor or precept others as needed.

    Physical Demands and Environment

    Typical direct patient care environment: requires standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, stretching, and use of proper body mechanics. Must lift up to 75lbs, use visual and hearing acuity, fine motor skills, and computer proficiency. Must adhere to standard precautions for exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim/compact RN license).
    • BLS certification required.
    • Experience in the clinical area desired; at least one year of acute‑care experience in the last 12months for Registry/Travel positions.
    • Must maintain performance competencies appropriate to the specialty area through annual validations.
    • For home‑health positions: valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and active auto insurance.
    • For behavioral‑health roles: required Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field preferred.
    • Professional certification (e.g., APRN, Case Manager) preferred.
    • Additional education and/or experience relevant to the specialty area preferred.
