Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered and may supervise and delegate tasks to other licensed personnel.

Core Functions

Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history, physical exam, diagnostics, and laboratory data and report abnormal findings to the physician(s) and appropriate caregivers.

Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, based on assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team. Create realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient/family and consider all specific needs.

Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team. Provide care per physician orders and nursing policies, and ensure continuity of care through accurate communication to other caregivers.

Evaluate the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, revise the plan of care as needed, and assess progress toward goals and expected outcomes.

Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Ensure documentation is legible, timely, and compliant with policy.

Provide care based on best evidence and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Engage in unit or facility shared leadership and support education, role development, and orientation of personnel, students, and visitors.

Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes, participate in national nursing quality initiatives, and join professional organizations.

In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department.

Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to discuss patient care and clarify information, including pastoral support when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid RN license in the state of practice or a temporary/interim RN license; a compact RN license is acceptable in the state of practice.
BLS certification required.
Experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months. Preference for those with experience in the specific clinical area.
Fingerprint clearance card as required for the assigned unit (Arizona or Colorado).
Maintenance of clinical performance competencies through annual validations.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred.
Professional nursing certification preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience in the specialty area.
