Overview
Bio Life Plasma Services, a Takeda subsidiary, leverages high-quality plasma collection to create life-changing medicines. This role reports to the Plasma Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) and collaborates with the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supports plasma center operations and adheres to applicable regulations and Bio Life policies.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions at the facility and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for providing unacceptable findings, or guidance on medical or technical issues including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees where applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER; refer to EHS guidance for incidents.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as directed by EHS/Medical Affairs.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduation from an accredited nursing program with state requirements.
- Current license or certification in the state of responsibility:
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). - Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Meet state requirements (in licensure state) for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete FDA-approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
