Registered Nurse Clinical Nurse Specialist - Women's and Children's Services

We’re seeking a compassionate and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support our Women & Children’s Services, with a primary focus in Mom/Baby and Labor & Delivery. In this role, you’ll serve as a clinical expert and key partner to nursing and provider teams, helping to advance evidence-based practice, enhance patient safety, and improve outcomes for mothers, newborns, and families.

Responsibilities

Serve as a clinical expert in diagnosis and treatment of illness and delivery of evidence‑based nursing intervention. Provide clinical expertise, staff education, mentorship, and support quality initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct comprehensive, holistic wellness and illness assessments; synthesize assessment data and draw conclusions about patient problems; collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans.
  • Integrate evidence‑based nursing interventions into comprehensive care plans; evaluate the effect of interventions for individuals and populations.
  • Identify researchable patient problems and design programs to demonstrate CNS impact on outcomes.
  • Set standards for nursing practice based on professional specialty organizations and evidence; act as clinical resource to staff nurses and ensure compliance with patient care standards.
  • Assist staff in reviewing and applying nursing research; consult on learning and development needs; guide instruction and mentoring.
  • Assess patterns of outcomes and provide guidance on clinical, fiscal, and resource management considerations.
  • Consult on clinical specialty issues across hospital departments; design system‑level assessment methods; lead nursing and multidisciplinary groups to implement innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to development of multidisciplinary standards of practice and evidence‑based guidelines; collaborate with other disciplines to support practice changes.
  • Implement and sustain evidence‑based changes in nursing practice and programs of care; disseminate outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of nursing practices, multidisciplinary relationships, and organizational policies in meeting identified care outcomes.
  • Adhere to TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication; comply with safety, confidentiality, and policy standards.

Perinatal Focus:

  • Act as clinical expert for Perinatal Services, applying evidence practice to improve quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.
  • Provide theory‑based care and collaborate with nursing staff to advance practice and effect system‑wide changes.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing with a clinical specialty.
  • Five years of clinical experience in a Clinical Nursing Specialist role in an acute care setting and five years RN experience in the relevant specialty.
  • Arizona state Registered Nurse license; meet qualification for recognition as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing care and assessment best practices, regulations and policies related to patient evaluation, care, and information.
  • Knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth and development and life stages for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients.
  • Skill in evaluating comprehensive health assessments and ensuring appropriate treatment options.
  • Skill in delivering best‑practice patient care.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure protocols.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical operations to solve job‑related situations.
  • Ability to identify positive or negative variances from expected outcomes and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
