Operating Room RN

Responsibilities

Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs; review history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe; review diagnostic and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians.

Formulate a plan of care, including a discharge plan; initiate plans based on patient‑specific needs and the medical plan; develop realistic, measurable goals with patient/family; consider cultural and psychosocial needs; coordinate with multidisciplinary team; revise plans as patient status changes.

Implement the plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team; provide care per physicians orders and nursing plan; delegate and supervise other licensed nurses and staff; communicate status to other caregivers.

Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching; revise plans as needed; assess progress toward goals and effectiveness of teaching.

Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; maintain legible, timely documentation in accordance with policy.

Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research; engage in unit or facility shared leadership, orientate patients, students, visitors; mentor others when appropriate.

Contribute to improving national nursing quality indicators; participate in professional organizations.

In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department.

Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts; provide spiritual support via clergy; prioritize and synthesize data to support patient and family response.

Qualifications

Active RN license in state of practice (or temporary/interim or compact).
BLS certification required.
Prior operating room circulating experience preferred; completion of Periop 101 required.
Minimum 1 year acute‑care experience in an acute‑care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; professional certification preferred.

Benefits

Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week, 4 × 10 hour shifts (06:45‑17:15 or 08:45‑19:15).
Weekend/daily shift differentials: flat $5 /hr for call, $3 /hr weekend shift differential, 18 % night‑shift differential.
Weekend and holiday rotations may be required.
Eligible for a $15 000 sign‑on bonus for external experienced OR RNs.
