Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN)

The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization.

This nurse integrates specialty care knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex outpatient situations. Validates understanding of the rationale for specialty care processes and decisions. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. The nurse will demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities. The nurse demonstrates competence in specialty care practices and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills.

Position Specific Duties:

• Validating existing information, eliciting additional information, or new information.
• Assist during intra-office medical procedures as necessary.
• Assisting with procedure preparation for Health Care provider and provide post procedure teaching.
• Review and update clinic schedule for provider.
• Maintain clinical flow for day-to-day activities.
• Triage phone calls and answer secure messages.
• Oversee duties of LPNs and HCTs to maintain clinic flow.
• Address walk-in patients and triage as needed for provider.
• Perform bedside injection administration, i.e. vaccinations, Botox, etc.
• Perform pre-anesthesia teaching and education for operating room procedure when necessary.
• Maintain supplies/equipment for the unit and order supplies for providers when necessary.
• Assisting with checking-in patients and performing collection of vital signs as needed.
• Provide nursing support to other clinic areas when needed.
• Facilitate request of medical records for providers.
• Perform Bedside EKGs.
• Remain competent in pre-cleaning, management and maintaining integrity of procedural scopes along with various reusable medical devices (RMD).
• And other duties deemed necessary by management.

The incumbent is responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS).

Preferred Experience:

• RN with Med/Surgical experience
• Familiar with Peri-Operative process
