Position SummaryThis position is responsible for the receipt of biological specimens into the department, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and performing waived testing. The role reports to the department supervisor and may take direction from higher level technical personnel. It assists the coordinator and supervisor in the functional operation of the histology section; insuring the continuity of daily workflow and prioritization of work, training of new employees, and the maintenance and reporting of quality control and quality assurance systems and procedure manuals, solving technical problems, and research and development activities.
The position also performs all essential functions as defined by the department, performs waived and moderately complex tests as defined by CLIA ’88 in an accurate and timely manner, may perform highly complex testing under general supervision, and serves as a grossing processor under the direction of a Certified Pathologist Assistant. It receives, examines, and processes pathology specimens, provides overview support for the anatomic pathology section in the absence of the supervisor or coordinator, performs all functions of an AP Laboratory Technician, may train employees on basic entry‑level tasks, performs QC/QA duties, and serves as a resource.

- Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment.
- Ensure the station is clean, stocked, and disinfected at the end of each shift.
- Perform well in the supervisor’s absence and provide guidance on pre‑analytical, waived, and moderately complex testing.

- React and adjust to daily workflow requirements as assigned by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree and be eligible for ASCP HT registry or Bachelor’s degree with Anatomic Pathology departmental‑specific certification documentation within 6 months of hire date.
- Willingness to perform/cross‑train in all areas of the Anatomic Pathology section and demonstrated competency in all aspects of work.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
