Senior Histotechnician

Position:
Senior Histotechnician (Tucson, AZ, on site).

• Expert in end-to-end tissue preparation: grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, and cell block preparation.
• Advanced staining & reagent management: proficiency in primary, special and advanced staining on automated platforms, antibody optimization and reagent lot verification.
• Laboratory operations & QA: troubleshoot protocols, validate procedures and author as well as update SOPs.
• Regulatory compliance: adhere to FDA, OSHA, ISO and GMP guidelines; maintain at least 95% training compliance.
• Safety & equipment management: identify hazards, maintain and calibrate instruments and laboratory equipment.
• Process improvement: support the quality system by investigating non-conformance, implementing corrective actions, tracking daily metrics and reviewing SOPs.
• Continuous improvement: drive 6S activities, lean methodologies and implement process‑improvement projects.
• Team collaboration: lead meetings, monitor cycle times, and support operational excellence.
• Leadership: supervise, train new staff, and oversee onboarding.
• Cross‑functional collaboration: partner to meet operational targets, resolve quality investigations, facilitate product transfers and refine SOPs.
• Equipment lifecycle management: oversee tissue/block inventory, coordinate calibrations and perform IQ/OQ/PQ validations.

• Education & Certification
  • Associate’s Degree (or equivalent 60 credit hours) in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology or histology plus HT (ASCP) certification plus 7 years directly related histology experience; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus HTL (ASCP) certification plus 4 years directly related histology experience.
  • Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) ASCP Certification.
  • Combination of education and experience may be accepted.

• Pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical pathology and histology operations.
• QC/QA documentation practices for CAP and clinical studies compliance.
• Grossing of biopsy samples and proficiency in processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and cover slipping.
• Understanding and troubleshooting histotechnical processes; provide technical support to stakeholders.
• Extensive knowledge of IHC theory and troubleshooting.
• Validation of new instruments, assays and routine techniques.
• Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement.
• Proficiency with Google products (gmail, sheets, docs).
• Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in high‑volume, fast‑paced environments while maintaining accuracy.
• Excellent written, verbal and English language skills.
• Team‑work and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Organizational, planning and attention‑to‑detail abilities.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

• Stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend and crouch for at least 4 hours per day.
• Push, pull and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
• Perform repetitive wrist, hand and finger movements.
• Maintain good near‑visual acuity for detailed tasks.
• Attendance may be required on weekends, holidays and during emergencies.
