Position Summary

The SGS Coordinator supports the company’s fabrication quality assurance program for purchased equipment and materials used on mining capital projects. This role bridges the gap between vendor‑performed quality control and the company’s obligation to verify that purchased equipment meets contractual and industry quality standards. The SQS Coordinator will split time between office‑based document review, reporting, and coordination (60–85%) and on‑site inspection activities at vendor fabrication facilities (15–40%).

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with solid fabrication shop experience who is comfortable both walking a shop floor and managing documentation, schedules, and reporting from a desk. The candidate will spend more time in an office environment.

Key Responsibilities Documentation & Administration
  • Review vendor‑submitted QA/QC documentation, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Material Test Reports (MTRs), NDE reports, weld maps, dimensional reports, and calibration certificates for completeness and conformance to specification.
  • Maintain and update QA/QC tracking logs, inspection schedules, and vendor document registers.
  • Build and distribute status reports on fabrication progress, inspection outcomes, non‑conformances, and open action items for project and procurement teams.
  • Identify and flag gaps, discrepancies, or missing documentation, and follow up with vendors to close them out.
  • Review all drawings for proper tagging. Review all manuals submitted for completeness according to company standards.
  • Issue release to ship on all equipment and materials once QA conditions have been met.
Inspection Coordination
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections at vendor facilities, including hold points and witness points, in alignment with project fabrication schedules.
  • Source, engage, and manage third‑party inspection (TPI) agencies; review their qualifications, scope of work, and inspection reports for quality and completeness.
  • Serve as a point of contact between the company, vendors, and third‑party inspectors to resolve scheduling conflicts and logistical issues.
On‑Site or Virtual Inspection
  • Travel to vendor fabrication facilities to perform or witness inspections, including visual weld inspections, dimensional checks, and verification of fabrication against approved drawings and specifications. Some vendors allow for virtual inspections.
  • Verify hold points and witness points are honored before fabrication proceeds to the next stage.
  • Document findings, photograph non‑conformances, and issue field inspection reports.
Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Attend project and vendor calls to represent QA/QC status and raise concerns proactively.
  • Communicate with engineering, procurement, and project management on quality issues that may affect schedule or cost.
  • Support the broader effort to formalize and improve the company’s fabrication QA processes over time.
  • Will be trained in other areas within expediting, logistics and document control to support as needed when there is not enough work in SQS.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial QA/QC environment.
  • Demonstrated familiarity of QA/QC documentation (ITPs, MTRs, NDE reports, etc.).
  • Experience coordinating or scheduling inspections, ideally including work with third‑party inspection agencies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple vendors, schedules, and documents simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Excel, Word, Outlook); comfortable building and maintaining tracking logs and reports.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including to industrial/fabrication facilities (some international travel may be required).
  • Strong written and…
