Overview
The Department of Environmental Sciences seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to initiate and lead the International Center for Arid Soil Health (I-CASH). The incumbent will coordinate a team of international researchers and stakeholders, synthesize the scientific literature on arid soil health assessment and management, design and implement a global arid agricultural soil health assessment, lead laboratory soil analyses, data analysis, and publications, and assist with long‑term I‑CASH strategic planning.
Travel:
International travel approximately two times per year.

Duties & Responsibilities- Identify, develop, and sustain research collaborations with U.S. and international arid soil health researchers.
- Design and facilitate a summit in Tucson, Arizona with international researchers and stakeholders to align on global priorities for arid agricultural soil health research during the next decade.
- Write a literature review for arid soil health assessment and management in agroecosystems.
- Design an international soil health assessment study in arid agricultural regions with a tailored, practical, and standardized suite of soil health indicators.
- Coordinate international soil sampling, laboratory soil analyses, crop yield data collection, and irrigation data collection across a network of arid agricultural sites.
- Statistically analyze and interpret soil, crop, and irrigation data at broad spatial scales.
- Engage and perform outreach with U.S. and international agribusinesses and philanthropies.
- Spatial analysis of soil and plant data.
- Science communication in written and oral formats for broad audiences.
- PhD in soil science or related field received by August 2026.
- At least one publication in a peer‑reviewed scientific journal.
- Valid passport for international travel.
- Research experience in arid regions.
- Research experience with physical, chemical, and/or biological metrics of soil health.
- Leadership experience with research teams and stakeholder outreach.
