The Research Assistant will work with the University of Arizona's Event Horizon Telescope research group, which conducts research in black hole astrophysics by performing large-scale numerical simulations, processing, and analyzing data, interpreting results, and contributing to the development of scientific publications.

Duties & Responsibilities- Under supervision and detailed instructions, utilize software and theoretical tools to help research activities, including data cleaning and coding, algorithm testing and optimization, and basic statistical calculations.
- Following outlined procedures, help with research data preparation, review data for accuracy, and develop skills in evaluation of data analysis methods and results. Assist with processes for developing simulations, maintain data records under direct supervision, participate in research group meetings, and present preliminary results of data collected.
- Assist with the preparation of data and plots for the submission of scientific publications, such as manuscripts and conference proceedings, in collaboration with other researchers of the research group.

Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Training and/or experience in applied math concepts and applications.
- Experience with machine learning, computer programming (Python), interferometry, and statistical inference.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims.
As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
