We invite applications for Postdoctoral Research Associates interested in nearby dwarf galaxy research with a focus on artificial intelligence techniques for discovery in wide-field imaging surveys. The successful candidate will work closely with Professors David Sand and Dennis Zaritsky on the SEAMLESS Survey, aiming to identify faint and ultra-faint dwarf galaxies beyond the Local Group. The role encourages independent research, support for collaborative projects, and access to Steward Observatory facilities.
Responsibilities- Develop and lead an independent research agenda centered on nearby dwarf galaxies and their identification in wide-field imaging surveys; disseminate work through publications and presentations.
- Implement research initiatives, collaborations, and events such as talks, workshops, and visitor programs as relevant to project goals.
- Collaborate with faculty and scholars, organize meetings, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students to foster a positive academic environment.
- Completed a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, Astrophysics, or a related science.
- Experience with nearby dwarf galaxies, large imaging datasets, or application of artificial intelligence techniques to imaging data.
The expected start date is Fall 2026, with the possibility of an earlier start.
