Job Summary

WSP is hiring On Call Archaeology Field Technicians (heritage resource specialist) for project work in Arizona and New Mexico. Positions are hourly and project‑based, working with supervisory field staff and senior archaeologists to complete survey and mitigation tasks such as testing, data recovery, and monitoring. Candidates will provide fieldwork support and collect digital data for reporting, contributing to state IMACS forms.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in Class I–Class III assessments and make avoidance recommendations.
  • Conduct heritage/cultural resource investigations supporting client projects, ensuring compliance with NEPA, NHPA, NAGPRA, and other federal, state, and local laws.
  • Travel to project sites in Arizona and New Mexico, with potential future work in adjacent states.
  • Perform pedestrian survey, carry up to 25 lbs. of gear, and work in hot and dry high‑desert conditions.
  • Document and analyze archaeological materials from prehistoric and historic sites.
  • Camp and work on 10‑day rotations at remote locations.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, History, or related field (MS/MA preferred).
  • 1–3 years of professional experience developing and managing archaeological and historic preservation plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of cultural resource and environmental regulations, including NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and state laws.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and digital data collection software/hardware.
  • Ability to perform pedestrian survey and carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment.
  • Comfortable surveying in high‑desert conditions and willingness to travel for 10‑day rotations.
  • Pass background check and WSP motor vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in the western U.S., especially the Great Basin or Southwestern regions.
  • Large‑scale terrestrial survey project experience.
Compensation

Hourly pay rate range: $26 - $30.
