Postdoctoral Research Associate I

The Department of Physiology at the College of Medicine – Tucson campus seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to join the lab of Associate Professor Shaowen Bao. The position involves investigating the mechanisms underlying noise trauma‑induced neuronal death using advanced molecular, cellular, and electrophysiological techniques. Candidates should have extensive experience in extracellular electrophysiology, immunofluorescence imaging, circuit tracing, behavioral testing, and patch‑clamp recording.

• Develop, plan, design, and conduct novel research on noise trauma‑induced cell death.
• Operate and maintain the specialized research area/lab.
• Formulate research methods and develop criteria for projects in accordance with peer‑reviewed standards.
• Establish timelines to complete assigned work and meet research obligations.
• Manage lab equipment.
• Participate in grant writing, protocol development, and structuring of proposals.
• Pursue new research funding opportunities and evaluate grant and industry‑sponsored projects.
• Author, co‑author, present, and co‑present research results at meetings and conferences.

• PhD in neuroscience, neurophysiology, or related field, completed before the anticipated start date.

• Hands‑on experience with patch‑clamp recording and behavioral testing.
• Strong background in circuit tracing techniques.
• Experience in grant proposal development and lab management.

• Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
