Research Technician I, Cellular and Molecular Medicine (Full-Time)
The Ottenheijm lab in the University of Arizona Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine is seeking a motivated, independent Research Technician for a joint position to support research focused on the structure and function of the cardiac and skeletal muscle proteins Titin and Nebulin and their role in disease.

Location:
Tucson Campus, 1501 N. Campbell Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85724 USA.
Perform experimental procedures under supervision, including:
- Perform muscle mechanics testing and confocal microscopy.
- Perform toe and tail tipping and PCR genotyping.
- Collect and record experimental data to assist analysis and interpretation.
- Perform mouse dissection.
Administrative work, including:
- Maintain compliance records and SOPs.
- Care for research animals, including breeding and weaning.
- Maintain accurate records of experiments and results, and enter data into laboratory databases.
- Catalog specimens and samples.
- Compile data and prepare summary reports for the investigator using established formats.
- Assist in preparing data for publication and presentations at scholarly meetings.
- Assist in troubleshooting routine technical issues.
Assist with orienting new lab members and students to standard laboratory and animal procedures under supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to keep protocols, data, and samples organized with clear documentation recording how experiments were performed to ensure rigor and reproducibility.
- Ability to solve problems that may require some analysis and interpretation. They are expected to independently propose solutions to problems for manager review, requiring innovation and creativity. Be able to review the effectiveness of programs, projects, or systems within own group / function, and making necessary adjustments.
- Ability to effectively communicate with professionalism with immediate peers within assigned work group and facilitate interaction and information exchange with other work groups as required to perform role. Based on nature of the role, employee may field requests from others in the organization.
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- BSc in Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field, or equivalent learning attained through experience.
- Experience with laboratory work is required. Prior experience with PCR of mouse models.
