Research Technician II – Department of Surgery (Part-Time)
The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Technician to assist Dr. Craig Weinkauf with a research project titled “Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis Contributions to Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease Risk.” The project involves working with patients and utilizing advanced MRI techniques, as well as other brain and vascular imaging modalities.
The applicant should possess excellent people skills and be highly self‑motivated and hardworking. Preference will be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree in English, Psychology, or a related scientific field, prior experience working with adults over 50 years old, and those looking to work on this research project for at least two years.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform set up and conduct of research experiments and tests according to defined protocols, with guidance from team members as needed.
- Become familiar with study background research, laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with lab procedures, protocols, and quality control.
- Set up and operate lab equipment and surgical devices following established instructions and procedures.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot scientific apparatuses, equipment, and instruments specific to assignment. Clean, sterilize, and maintain lab equipment.
- Assist with research sample collection and specimen preparation.
- Maintain logs, records, notes, data, and spreadsheets to document experiment results and facilitate data analysis.
- Provide administrative support to research projects (ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, scanning, photocopies, labeling, filing, record keeping).
- Participate in lab meetings and other scientific discussions.
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Undergraduate degree in English, Psychology, or a scientific field.
- Experience working with adults over 50 years old.
- Commitment to a minimum of 2 years on the project.
Rate of Pay: $16.50–$20.63 hourly
FLSA Classification: Non‑Exempt
Status: Part‑Time (19 hours per week, 0.49 FTE)
